Hello! My name is Arik and while I have only owned rats for the past 5 months, I've been researching them on a small scale for the past few years. I am a Senior in High School, and before I met my rats I didn't quite know how I wanted to spend most of my life. Since then I've come to the gradual conclusion that I will be studying Animal Science, particularly the behavior of domesticated animals in relation to humans and other species.
I enjoy writing, reading, doodling, and taking photos of senseless things. Most of my favorite conversations are held with my animals, which may seem, well, sad to many, but it's never bothered me. My family owns a small hobby farm, and most of my childhood was spent running around barefoot with horses and goats and chickens. Animals have always made more sense to me than people, which is why I'd like a career involving animals.
I suffer from a variety of mental illnesses, and part of my rats' job is helping me cope with these. For some reason they just seem to be better at the whole comfort-thing than people.
I'm a pacifist who would love for global human rights to exist, and a supporter of animal welfare, but not animal rights.
I'm hoping this blog can help other rat owners to deal with a variety of problems, and will be blogging at least once a week with either entertaining stories or informational articles.
